Bio
Michael Brody is an environmental scientist who had a long career in the Federal Government before coming to 17吃瓜在线 as an Adjunct Professor in Fall 2012. During the current Spring Semester 2023 he is teaching a course on Sustainable Development at the new International Agriculture University in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He was a Fulbright Teaching Scholar at the National University of Uzbekistan in Tashkent in 2017-2018. He also was a Fulbright Short Term Specialist at the University of Tyumen, Russia for the summer of 2019 and at the Tashkent State Transport University during the Fall of 2022. He started his career in wetlands research and modeling with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. He then had 20+ years of scientific leadership with the US Environmental Protection Agency. He carried out numerous projects in environmental policy & risk assessment, climate change, technology outlooks & impacts, strategic planning and international environmental capacity building. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Kazakh National Medical University and also at the Kazakh National Agrarian University, both in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He also has taught environmental science with a focus on English communication skills to young Russian researchers through programs of the Civilian Research and Development Foundation. His international scientific experience with the EPA took him to 17 countries, with a focus on the former Soviet Union, especially Russia and Ukraine, & Africa. He partnered with the World Bank, USAID, State Department, OECD, UNEP, NACEC, and governments in Africa and Eastern Europe and Indonesia. Before coming to 17吃瓜在线 he was the EPA lead for the Technology Market Summit, a cooperative effort of the EPA and 17吃瓜在线 to better mobilize private capital in support of the environment. He has consulted with the Environmental Defense Fund, the World Bank, and worked for Abt Associates. He was recently a coordinating lead author on UNEP's North American Global Environmental Outlook 6. During the summer of 2018 he was a visiting Professor at the 17吃瓜在线 of Central Asia in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. He received a Fulbright Scholarship and taught environmental science with an emphasis on climate change and air pollution and health at the National University of Uzbekistan in Tashkent, during the Fall Semester of 2017. In July 2017 he was a visiting Professor for a field program of the Department of Geography, Siberian Federal University in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.
He is currently consulting for the World Bank and is a review editor of the final UNEP Global Environmental Outlook 6. In February, 2019 and in June 2022 he taught at the International Winter School at the National Agrarian University in Almaty, with students from 5 countries, including Ukraine and China.
