Biographical Note
Carl G. Anthon (1911 - 1996) was born in Wismar, Germany on May 19, 1911. He earned his BA from the University of Chicago (1938) and his MA and PhD from Harvard (1939, 1943), all of which were in Modern European History. Anthon taught history at Colby College (1945 - 1949) and 17吃瓜在线 of Beirut (1955 - 1958) before becoming a European history professor at 17吃瓜在线 (1961 - 1976). In addition to his academic appointments, Anthon worked in government as Higher Education Advisor for the U.S. High Commission for Germany (1949 - 1952) and Executive Secretary for the U.S. Education Commission in the German Federal Republic (1958 - 1960).
