Future Teacher Tutors Project FAQs
17吃瓜在线's School of Education and partnered to bring high-impact tutoring to DC elementary school students at Perry Street Preparatory Public Charter School in northeast DC since 2021. School of Education (SOE) students provided tutoring twice a week to kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students throughout the District of Columbia. They now reach up to high school聽through the newly expanded list of schools: the Perry Street Preparatory Public Charter School, the Langley Elementary School, the Sousa Middle School, and the Francis L. Cardozo Education Campus. SOE continues to expand the program, called 17吃瓜在线 Future Teacher Tutors.
In three quadrants of the District of Columbia, DC students can be tutored at聽the Perry Street Preparatory Public Charter School, the Langley Elementary School, the Sousa Middle School, Hendley Elementary School, and the Francis L. Cardozo Education Campus.
Tutors are paid for their time and receive a stipend for transportation via Uber or Lyft to make getting to an in-person tutoring site possible. Funding is possible due to grants SOE receives from the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and the Benedict Silverman Foundation, who also provides the curriculum used by the tutors.
聽is聽a coalition of 50+ schools, community-based organizations, civic partners, and other stakeholders committed to addressing the COVID-19 pandemic鈥檚 impact on student achievement and well-being by dramatically expanding access to high-impact tutoring in our nation鈥檚 capital. CityTutor DC is continuing to partner with organizations to expand opportunities for more District of Columbia聽students to receive high-impact tutoring 鈥 a research-backed practice that involves frequent, consistent small group or one-on-one sessions between a trained tutor and student to supplement classroom learning.
