17³Ô¹ÏÔÚÏß letterhead

November 13, 2023

Dear 17³Ô¹ÏÔÚÏß Community,

The seriousness and impact of recent events both in our community and around the world bring many emotions–sorrow, fear, and uncertainty, among them. While we continue to focus on safety and providing support, there is comfort and opportunity for hope in coming together as a community.

On Wednesday, November 15, we will offer spaces for the 17³Ô¹ÏÔÚÏß community to gather in guided reflection. From 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m., we will hold centering spaces for community members in several locations on campus and our affiliated buildings. During this time, a guided reflection on personal self-care and sense of belonging will be offered by the University Chaplain from the Kay Spiritual Life Center and shared in the gathering spaces via livestream. The centering moment will be an open experience for persons of all beliefs. All spaces available on campus and in our facilities include:

  • Kay Spiritual Life Center – Chapel
  • Washington College of Law – Yuma Building Room 112
  • Spring Valley Building – Room 100
  • 4401 Connecticut Avenue – Lower-Level Community Room

We are supporting the safety of the gatherings by having 17³Ô¹ÏÔÚÏßPD resources available at each location.

The gathering is not intended to address all the significant challenges faced in the world and in our community. The goal is to provide community members space and opportunity for their own reflection and support as we all navigate these difficult times. It is another aspect of the support available to community members.

Following Wednesday’s gathering, additional opportunities for supported introspection will also be made available through Kay Spiritual Life Center in the coming weeks.

Sincerely,

Rev. Bryant M. Oskvig
University Chaplain
